(BN) Vuitton Will Keep Champs Elysees Store Open on Sundays, Citing 2008 Decree

Louis Vuitton Will Keep Paris Flagship Store Open on Sundays

March 11 (Bloomberg) -- Louis Vuitton, the fashion brand owned by billionaire Bernard Arnault, will keep its flagship Paris store on the Avenue des Champs Elysees open on Sundays in spite of a court ruling.

France's highest administrative court, the Conseil d'Etat, today overturned a prefectural decree dating back to 2005 allowing the store to open on Sundays. There is another decree though, issued in 2008, that isn't covered by the decision, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA spokeswoman Sonia Fellmann said in a telephone interview.

French labor laws limit retailers' right to open on Sundays to five days a year unless the venue has "cultural" or "recreational" value. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has vowed to relax the Sunday opening rule and boost consumer spending.
